About Mailbox News magazine

Cake decorating is a fascinating art that captures the hearts and imaginations of those involved in it. Decorators find years of fun, excitement and satisfaction; and Mailbox News is where decorators share their ideas and enthusiasm.

We've been publishing since 1956, sharing ideas for specialty cake designs for all seasons, holidays, and occasions, and tips on decorating techniques and cake decorating news. Also, we present tried and true recipes and menus for catering events.

Our long time and new subscribers of all ages, lifestyles, and skill levels find delight in reading Mailbox News and sharing their creativity and cake decorating experiences.

MBN was founded by Dee Dahlquist in 1956 under Maid of Scandinavia. Dee and her husband Mark also founded Maid of Scandinavia, a mail-order and retail supplier of cake decorating goods, currently operating under Sweet Celebrations. She published the magazine until 2002 when it was purchased by Grace McNamara, Inc. Dee passed away in March 9, 2005 after a courageous fight with cancer. Her enthusiam for cake decorating shone throughout the publication as she connected with many of our readers on a personal level. The current staff of MBN trys to keep up the same passion for cake decorating that Dee held all those years.

MBN was previously printed black and white on small format until the Jul/Aug 2004 issue when it was switched to a larger format and in full-color. MBN is published bimonthly, and is 48-pages filled with cake decorating ideas, recipes, and photos. Editor in Chief Craig Gustafson has worked with Mailbox News since it was purchased by Grace McNamara Inc, and is aided by Editor Kimberly Anderson who joined the team in 2005. MBN is designed by Art Director Holly Forsberg, and aided by Designer Amy Bjellos. Publisher Susan Griffith is the primary marketing head for MBN and has contributed to expanded circulation and exposure of the magazine.

Comment from a subscriber in Illinois: "There are other magazines out there but there is none that can hold a candle to yours. I'm so glad my friend told me about Mailbox News. You are the greatest!"

Comment from a shop owner in Michigan:
My customers continue to ask for Mailbox News for their cake decorating inspiration ---I try to keep an ample supply in the shop, but, sometimes we sell out quickly.

Comment from a subscriber in Maryland:
I have been a Wilton instructor for 23 years and I just can't wait to receive the latest issue of your magazine. So many helpful ideas. I am doing a demo for the local Culinary Club and I will take along my latest issues to show to everyone. I always show my cake decorating students your magazine and give them the information so that they can subscribe too.
